Cape Air Takes America250 Celebration to the Skies

The aircraft design features a bold red, white, and blue color palette with patriotic striping, stars, and dynamic motion elements symbolizing unity and progress. A defining highlight of the livery is the phrase, “We the People” prominently displayed on the belly of the aircraft.

As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, Cape Air is giving travelers a front-row seat to history—one flight at a time.

On July 3, the regional airline unveiled a striking new America250 commemorative aircraft that will travel throughout its United States and Caribbean network. The aircraft will serve as a flying tribute to the nation’s Semiquincentennial while connecting communities from coast to coast.

A Patriotic Design with a Powerful Message

The custom-painted Cessna 402C features a bold red, white and blue design accented with patriotic striping, stars and dynamic motion elements symbolizing unity and progress.

Perhaps its most distinctive feature is the phrase “We the People”, displayed prominently on the belly of the aircraft.

Visible while the aircraft is in flight, the message represents the foundational principle of American democracy while reminding travelers that America’s story belongs to everyone.

“This aircraft is a celebration of one of the most important milestones in our nation’s history,” said Mike Migliore, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cape Air.

“It brings the spirit of America250 to life in a way that is Cape Air. Every day, we connect communities across our network, and we are proud that this aircraft will help share the story of America’s 250th anniversary with the thousands of passengers who fly with us.”

On July 3 Cape Air unveiled a newly designed commemorative aircraft livery honoring and in partnership with America250, the national initiative marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Taking the America250 Celebration Across the Cape Air Network

The aircraft will operate across Cape Air’s network, giving passengers throughout the United States and the Caribbean an opportunity to experience the commemorative livery and reflect on the nation’s historic milestone.

The design was created in partnership with Scheme Designers and painted by Royal Aircraft Services in Hagerstown, Pennsylvania. Cape Air says the project reflects the airline’s longstanding commitment to community connection, regional accessibility and celebrating the spirit of America through travel.

Dr. Jill Biden took flight aboard Cape Air’s newest livery in July to fly from Martha’s Vineyard to Nantucket.

A Special Passenger Takes Flight

Just weeks after its unveiling, the commemorative aircraft welcomed a notable passenger.

When former First Lady Dr. Jill Biden traveled from Martha’s Vineyard to Nantucket, Cape Air learned she would be aboard one of its flights and made a special decision: dispatch the America250 aircraft to welcome her for the journey.

After learning about the aircraft’s patriotic design—and particularly the “We the People” message displayed beneath it—Dr. Biden exclaimed, “I love it.”

Following photographs with the aircraft, she and her daughter continued their flight to Nantucket aboard the commemorative plane.

About America250

America250 is the national nonpartisan initiative working to engage every American in celebrating and commemorating the Semiquincentennial—the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The initiative is spearheaded by the congressionally appointed U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission and its sole-supporting nonprofit organization, America250.org, Inc. Together, they are known as America250.

This multi-year effort began with America’s Invitation on July 4, 2023. The national public engagement campaign invited Americans to share their stories, hopes and dreams for the country’s future.

Leading up to July 4, 2026, America250 is working to provide opportunities for Americans to pause and reflect on the nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans and consider the future they want to create for the next generation and beyond.
