Changing of the Guard at St. Croix This Week: Editor/GM Susan Wall Retiring; Christina Frederick Taking The Helm

St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands (March 12, 2025) — Part lifestyle magazine part destination guide, St Croix This Week magazine has been showcasing the island’s twin cities of Christiansted and Frederiksted and all points in between for 54 years. The magazine is published by Metro Caribbean, whose connection to the magazine and the U.S. Virgin Islands dates back more than 26 years when the publishing enterprise was acquired from founder Margot Bachman.

Susan Wall retires after 16 years at the helm of St. Croix This Week magazine that has been showcasing the island for 54 years.

Editor and General Manager Susan Wall has been the woman behind the book for 16 years. She has curated content to celebrate St. Croix and helped hundreds of local businesses reach island residents and visitors alike each month.

Wall is retiring this month and Christina Frederick, St. Croix resident of 24 years, artist and small business owner, takes the helm of the magazine as editor and general manager on April 1.

“Susan is amazing. She has overseen the content, production and distribution of the magazine while at the same time partnering with local businesses to make sure their messaging has impact,” says Publisher Charlotte Atkins. “She has been the lifeblood of the publication and there are not words enough to express how much she has meant to this community and to our company.”

Many know Frederick as co-owner and manager of ARTfarm, a sustainable organic farm on St. Croix. But for the past two decades she has also headed her own design and marketing company, helping clients with branding, graphics, web design and production, social media, copywriting, editing, photography and public relations.

“Christina’s experience includes writing, editing, design and production, so that coupled with her network of relationships on St. Croix, makes her well suited to take the helm of our beloved publication,” said Atkins.

Wall agrees wholeheartedly. “I have known Christina many years as an energetic and creative energy in our community. I have every confidence that she will take on her new position with gusto.”

Frederick is thrilled with her new role in the St. Croix community. “I am deeply honored and excited to have been chosen from a substantial local talent pool,” said Frederick. “Susan Wall has tirelessly and humbly continued to build a vibrant resource for the St. Croix community. I plan to cherish and nurture it as it continues to grow, evolve, and provide promotion and reflection of the breadth of experiences our island has to offer.”

Wall wrapped up her tenure with St. Croix This Week by producing the April-May 2025 edition of the magazine, having published close to 100 bimonthly editions over the years.

“Being the managing editor and GM of St. Croix This Week has been an honor, challenging me in new ways and pushing my needle in a wonderful direction!” said Wall. She recalls “coming to the islands decades ago and having a stewardess, as we called them then, coming down the aisle of the plane with a stack of the’ Pink Sheet’ for St. Croix in one arm, and the ‘Yellow Sheet’ for St. Thomas in the other as she asked each passenger where they were going. Those stapled sheets have come a long way since then.”

Originally just for visitors, the magazine has evolved over the years into a premium, iconic, full-color publication, picked up all over the island by visitors and local residents. Filling the pages with local businesses, events and features – from shopping to staying here, from dining to watersports, and from local art to our Danish connection – it reaches a broad section of the community showing visitors, and those who want to move here, what St. Croix is all about.
