Jolly Roger Charters — and Baby Makes Three!

Jolly Roger Charters -- and Baby Makes Three!Captain Mike has lived on St. Croix since 1984. After growing up in the small, but lively town of New Paltz, NY, he made his way to St. Croix on a threemasted sailing schooner name Rambler in a semester-at-sea program out of Gloucester, MA. He began captaining Jolly Roger in 1986 and in 1994 bought the boat and began Jolly Roger Charters. Mike became a National Park Concessioner in 2009 focusing on Buck Island Trips–full and ½ day plus sunset sails.
“We specialize in private charters and smaller groups with personalized service and pride ourselves in customer service striving to make sure our guests have a special experience in a relaxed environment whether on the boat, at the beach, or snorkeling our beautiful reef. If you come out to Buck enough, you’ll see everything–we see huge schools of blue tang, parrot fish, squid, lobsters, barracuda, and spectacular coral formations every day,” says Mike.
“We have been sailing with our Danish visitors for years. We make ourselves available to cruise ship passengers through direct bookings and walk-up to give them more options during their visit. We understand that, for some of our visitors, this is their first time in the Caribbean and/or first time snorkeling. It is our goal to make this a wonderful experience that they will remember and cherish.”
In 2012, Mike represented the VI in the World Age Group Championships triathlon in Auckland, New Zealand. It was there that he met his now wife, Bridget, while competing. In January, they welcomed their first child, Michael Jr. Both Mike and Bridget still compete in most of the running and triathlon races on island. They are now the race directors of the St. Croix Scenic 50, as well as the race record holders.
