Zion Modern Kitchen The historic Quin House courtyard came back to life in January of 2015 as Zion Modern Kitchen. A favorite hang for locals and tourists for decades, this popular location on King Cross Street and Company has been transformed into a state-of-the art restaurant with the bar in the kitchen so you can watch the chefs prepare your meal!
“Zion, to us means home,” says Mary Orr, Front-of-House Manager. “It is a place of fortitude, and a safe haven. We want to be a culinary safe haven. When people walk in the door, we want them to feel like they’re home. Another meaning of Zion is the end all, be all of pure bliss, and we really want people to walk out of the door with a feeling of pure bliss.”
The owner and executive chef of Zion is Michael Ross. Born on St Croix, he comes from a restaurant family (The Family Tree, Casa Loco, The Pentheny Garden). Michael’s revitalization of this restaurant was meant to be. His culinary passion was stirred working in the same location he is in now under former chef/owner Dave Kendrick and honed at Le Cordon Bleu in San Francisco.
“We make all of our pasta, breads, and some of our cheeses in house daily,” continues Mary. “We have some fun, eclectic appetizers and our soups, salads, and pastas are all a funky farm-to-table and ocean-to-table experience; we grow much of our herbs in our courtyard. Our bar is pretty spectacular–you get a true ‘craft cocktail’ experience. Frank, our bartender, is the ‘stoli cocktail master’ for the Caribbean with an incredible cocktail program. He makes all of his own bitters and we make all of our flavored liquors in house by infusion.”
