Crucian Gold is the creation of the Bishop family, a team of artisans and metalsmiths born and raised on St. Croix. Together, they design and handcraft original pieces in gold, sterling silver, copper and locally inspired materials, drawing directly from the island they call home.
The story begins with founder Brian Bishop, whose connection to the sea shaped both his life and his craft. Growing up sailing and diving in the waters surrounding St. Croix, he began experimenting with metalwork in the 1970s, turning simple sailing knots into intricate jewelry. What started as a hobby soon became a calling, with Brian selling his earliest pieces from a handmade mahogany box, sharing his work one person at a time.
Decades later, that passion has evolved into a multi-generational craft.
Today, family members continue the tradition inside the Crucian Gold studio on Strand Street, creating new designs inspired by the history, culture and natural beauty of St. Croix. Each piece reflects the island’s identity — from nautical knots and marine life to cultural symbols and historic influences — resulting in collections that feel both timeless and deeply personal.
